COMO Cacoa IslandEvery booking through suitespot comes with a comprehensive package of suitespot benefits:The Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi (from around EUR 2,509) is the most expensive house in our entire Maldives selection and occupies an island of its own within the atoll. COMO Cocoa Island on Makunufushi (from around EUR 939) is pitched altogether differently: its water villas take their shape from the traditional dhoni boats, and our room data lists the categories Loft Water and Dhoni Loft Water.
SO/ Maldives on Akasdhoo (from around EUR 555) is the youngest house in the atoll, and the Taj Exotica Resort on Emboodhu Finolhu (from around EUR 503) the most affordable entry – as well as the second house for which our data records a water category (Sunrise Overwater).
Four resorts is not many – and it does not make the choice easier, because they are fundamentally unalike. Entry rates run from around EUR 503 to around EUR 2,509 a night, and that gap does not describe grades of quality but different ideas of what a stay in the Maldives should be.
Taj Exotica Resort MaldivesAt one end stands the Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi, on a scale rarely found on a single island. At the other, the Taj Exotica, for years one of the atoll's best-known addresses, working with its own line of suites up to a Presidential Suite. Between them sit the small, pared-back COMO Cocoa Island and the younger, emphatically contemporary SO/ Maldives.Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comSince all four are reached by boat, the transfer question matters less here than elsewhere – what matters more is how much activity you want on your island. Tell us that, and we will narrow the four down to one or two.
Four houses on four islands – in the Maldives the island is the hotel, and each of these four stands for a different scale.
Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi · IthaafushiThe rule of thumb: Ithaafushi for the grandest scale, Makunufushi for the smallest island, Emboodhu Finolhu and Akasdhoo for the gentler entry price.
The Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi (from around EUR 2,509) is by some distance the most expensive house in our Maldives selection and is affiliated with Hilton Honors. Booking here means deliberately choosing the largest scale the atoll has to offer.
COMO Cocoa Island (from around EUR 939) is the counter-proposal: a small island and a pared-back house whose water villas take their shape from the traditional dhoni boats. Our room data lists the categories Loft Water and Dhoni Loft Water. It is the only house in the atoll with no loyalty program affiliation.
The Taj Exotica Resort on Emboodhu Finolhu (from around EUR 503) is the most affordable entry and part of Taj InnerCircle; its room data records a Sunrise Overwater category and a Presidential Suite, among others. On Akasdhoo follows SO/ Maldives (from around EUR 555), the youngest house in the atoll, affiliated with ALL and holding a family category of its own.
For many guests the overwater villa is the very reason for coming to the Maldives – which is why precision serves better here than a flourish.
SO/ Maldives · GalolhuFor two of the four houses our room data explicitly records a water category: COMO Cocoa Island with Loft Water and Dhoni Loft Water, and the Taj Exotica with Sunrise Overwater. For the Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi and SO/ Maldives we hold no such categories – which does not mean there are none, but that we will not promise them to you unverified. Tell us which category you would like: we check availability and aspect house by house and register your preference in advance.
Entry rates run from around EUR 503 a night at the Taj Exotica Resort to around EUR 2,509 a night at the Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi, with a typical entry rate around EUR 939 a night. Always count the transfer and the board arrangement into your budget: on a resort island there is no alternative next door, which makes the choice between breakfast, half board and all-inclusive weigh more than the room category.
High season is the dry season from December to April, with the highest rates around Christmas and New Year. From May to November it is wetter and windier but distinctly cheaper. With only four houses in the atoll, booking early pays off especially here – over the Christmas weeks the available choice is exhausted quickly.
The concierge teams in the atoll arrange what a stay on a private island is made of: snorkelling on the house reef, private sunset cruises, dinner on the beach and excursions into the nearby capital, Malé.Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comAs a suitespot guest you travel with VIP status: our travel advisors register your preferences directly with the resort before arrival – in the Maldives above all the position and aspect of your villa. On getting there: all four houses are reached via Malé airport (MLE), and we agree the onward transfer in advance so that it fits your arrival time.
suitespot rates are genuine direct rates: you keep earning regular points and elite nights in the hotel's loyalty program and retain your status benefits – on top of your suitespot benefits. These programs are represented in South Malé Atoll:
| Program | Hotels | Examples in South Malé Atoll |
|---|---|---|
| ALL (Accor) | 1 hotel | SO/ Maldives |
| Hilton Honors | 1 hotel | Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi |
| Taj InnerCircle | 1 hotel | Taj Exotica Resort Maldives |
Entry rates across our 4 houses currently start at around EUR 503 a night at the Taj Exotica Resort and reach about EUR 2,509 a night at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, the most expensive house in our entire Maldives selection. The typical entry rate is around EUR 939 a night. Budget for the transfer and the board arrangement as well – on a resort island there is no alternative next door. Current rates including your suitespot benefits are shown in the hotel overview.
Yes. suitespot rates are genuine direct rates: you earn regular points and elite nights in the respective hotel program, and your existing status benefits remain intact. In South Malé Atoll every house belongs to a different program: the Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi to Hilton Honors, the Taj Exotica to Taj InnerCircle and SO/ Maldives to ALL. COMO Cocoa Island belongs to no program – there you receive the suitespot benefits but no program points. Importantly, suitespot benefits come on top of your status benefits – they do not replace them.
Water categories are evidenced in our room data for two of the four houses: COMO Cocoa Island (Loft Water and Dhoni Loft Water, shaped after the traditional dhoni boats) and the Taj Exotica Resort (Sunrise Overwater). For the Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi and SO/ Maldives we hold no such categories; we check them with the house on request rather than promise them unverified.
South Malé Atoll adjoins the capital to the south and is therefore among the quickly reached atolls: its houses are generally served by boat rather than seaplane, which keeps late arrivals possible. The exact mode, duration and cost of the transfer depend on the individual resort; our travel advisors settle this before you book.
High season is the dry season from December to April, with the highest rates around Christmas and New Year. From May to November it is wetter and windier but noticeably cheaper – the rain usually comes short and hard rather than all day. Because the atoll holds only four houses, availability over the holiday weeks runs out quickly: for Christmas and New Year an early enquiry is particularly worthwhile.
Both atolls lie close to the capital and are served by boat, so the transfer is short and predictable either way. North Malé Atoll offers the wider choice with seven houses and the denser resort landscape – the airport lies there too. South Malé Atoll is more sparsely occupied and covers an unusually wide price range across its four houses, from the Taj Exotica to the Waldorf Astoria. For the widest choice, go north; if you have one of these four addresses in mind, go south.
