The 20 Best Luxury Hotels on the Costa del Sol

On the Costa del Sol, a pool is almost always part of the stay: the resorts usually have several pools set in large gardens, while in Málaga they are up on the roof. At the Finca Cortesín Hotel Malaga, the main pool measures 35 meters, and at the beach club on the Bahía de Casares there is an equally long infinity pool, open in season until October. The Higuerón Resort’s Sport Club, which guests of Leiro Residences Málaga can use, has a heated 25-meter pool.

Luxury villas with a private pool: at the Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol San Roque, each of the 47 villas has a pool of its own. The Anantara Villa Padierna Palace Marbella has villas with a private pool, and Villa Obama even has one on the roof. At the Finca Cortesín Hotel Malaga, the Pool Suite Sea View comes with its own pool overlooking the sea, set on a 60 m² terrace.

For families and adults: at SO/ Sotogrande, the heated infinity pool with a sea view is reserved for adults whenever the temperature-controlled family pool with its children’s area is open; both are seasonal. At the Anantara Villa Padierna Palace Marbella, the Roman-style outdoor pool sits among statues and cypress trees.

Above the rooftops of Málaga: at the Only YOU Hotel Malaga, the 8th-floor infinity pool belongs to hotel guests only and is open from 9 am to 7 pm. The Gran Hotel Miramar Malaga has two outdoor pools in its historic gardens facing the bay, and from June 1 the Palacio Solecio Malaga opens the pool on the roof terrace of its new building.

Active recovery: at SO/ Sotogrande, the Sotogrande Spa & Wellness covers 3,500 m²: the water circuit includes a Jacuzzi, hot and cold plunge pools and a 20-meter pool, plus cryotherapy and floating. At the World Luxury Spa Awards 2025 it was named Best Luxury Golf Resort Spa of Southern Europe. At the Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol San Roque, the spa covers 1,800 m² and combines two hammams, a salt inhalation room and a snow fountain; from March 30 to October 15, 2026 it is reserved for adults, and teenagers aged 16 and over are welcome when accompanied.

Moorish inspiration: at The Westin La Quinta, the Heavenly Spa by Westin is a Moorish-style wellness area of 1,500 m², with a hydrotherapy pool, a Mediterranean sauna and an aromatic steam bath. In Málaga, the Botanic Spa by Sisley at the Gran Hotel Miramar Malaga combines a water circuit with two- or four-day detox programs, whose menus are created by chef Diego Nicás.

Upgrade and check-in: 19 hotels offer an upgrade, usually on arrival and subject to availability; at La Zambra Resort Mijas it is confirmed at booking, though not from a room to a suite.
