Your Guide to the Luxury Hotel in Kitzbühel

Kitzbühel has two seasons that bear no resemblance to each other: the winter, when the town watches the Streif every January, and the summer, when the same slopes are green and you walk up them.Grand Tirolia Hotel KitzbühelGrand Tirolia Hotel Kitzbühel · UnteraurachFor this guide we reviewed the best hotels in Kitzbühel and selected one: the Grand Tirolia Hotel Kitzbühel in Unteraurach, at 289 € per night.

Our travel advisors’ insider tip

The Grand Tirolia Hotel Kitzbühel has nine categories, five of them suites. What matters, though, is not the number but where the ladder has a gap.

From the bottom up it runs: 55 square meters in the Suite, 79 in the Superior Suite, 83 in the Penthouse, 88 in the Deluxe Suite.

And then nothing for a long while. The next step is the Grand Tirolia Suite at 300 square meters, above it the Presidential Suite at 320.

Between 88 and 300 square meters there is not a single category. Wanting more space here is not a step but a leap – and that is a decision to make before booking rather than at the front desk.

Our advice: for two people the Deluxe Suite at 88 square meters is almost always enough. The two large categories pay off when you arrive as a group – over Christmas, say, or for race week in January.

Tell our travel advisors how many of you are coming. With nine categories that almost answers the question of the room by itself.

Where to Stay in Kitzbühel: Unteraurach and the Mountains Around

Kitzbühel is small and most of it is within walking distance – the exception being the mountains, which you reach by lift.

In Unteraurach, southwest of town, you stay quieter and in the green. Our recommendation: the Grand Tirolia Hotel Kitzbühel.

For orientation: the Vorderstadt and Hinterstadt form the historic center with its painted townhouses. The Hahnenkamm to the west carries the Streif, raced every January. The Kitzbüheler Horn to the east is the town's viewpoint mountain. And the Schwarzsee north of town is warm enough to swim in during summer.

Rooms and Suites: The Property from the Inside

The Grand Tirolia Hotel Kitzbühel has nine categories, and five of them are suites – more than half.

The largest is the Presidential Suite at 320 square meters, closely followed by the Grand Tirolia Suite at 300. Below them come the Deluxe Suite at 88, the Penthouse at 83, the Superior Suite at 79 and the Suite at 55 square meters.

On views there is one motif here, and it is the one people come for: the mountains. Several categories are named after it.

Tell our travel advisors whether floor area or the view matters more to you – in this property those are two different questions.

What a Night in Kitzbühel Costs

A night at the Grand Tirolia Hotel Kitzbühel costs 289 €. The suitespot benefits apply from the first night.

When it is at its best: in February and March for the snow, in July and September for the mountains on foot. September has the clearest days.

When it is quiet: in May and June. Between the seasons the trails are empty and the alpine huts open.

When to book early: for Hahnenkamm week in January, over Christmas and New Year and during the February holidays. On those dates Kitzbühel is booked months ahead – and with a property of nine categories that means very early.

And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in May exactly as in January.

How long to stay: three to four nights. In winter, because a ski day only pays from the second day on; in summer, because a hike, a lake day and a day in town add up to exactly that.

Mountains, Golf and Exclusive Services in a 5-Star Hotel

What our travel advisors arrange most often in Kitzbühel is the day on the Streif without skis: in summer a marked path leads down the race course, past the Mausefalle and the Hausbergkante, and only there do you understand how steep the thing is that gets skied in under two minutes every January.

Alongside it: the Vorderstadt with its painted facades; the Kitzbüheler Horn with its alpine flower garden halfway up; the Schwarzsee with its peaty water, warm in summer; and the alpine huts, staffed from June to September.

And the food: Kaspressknödel in broth; Kasspatzln with fried onions; Tiroler Gröstl from the pan; and the Kaiserschmarrn you share on the mountain.

A stay at the Grand Tirolia Hotel Kitzbühel includes breakfast for two, a hotel credit of 50 €, a room upgrade subject to availability, a late check-out.

The late check-out is worth more in Kitzbühel than elsewhere: it buys you half a day on the mountain on your departure day, before the drive begins.
