For orientation: Courchevel is built in altitude tiers you can still read in the old numbers – Le Praz, Village, Moriond and, at the top, Courchevel 1850. In Le Praz stood the 1992 Olympic ski jump, still in the valley today. The resort has its own altiport with a sloping grass strip, and it hangs off the Trois Vallées, the largest linked ski area in the world. The commune itself has officially been called Saint-Bon-Tarentaise since 1972.
